Joe and Sophia’s wedding was one of the most sentimental weddings we have had the privilege of capturing. From start to finish, the day was filled with warmth, kindness, and a deep sense of family, which made it incredibly special to document.
Drawn to our pastel and vintage photography style, Joe and Sophia planned a November wedding in the quaint village of Ashover, Derbyshire. Known for its historic stone buildings and traditional architecture, Ashover provided the perfect backdrop for a timeless wedding day. The character of the village played a huge role in the couple’s portraits, especially during their shoot around the old Poet’s Corner and surrounding streets.
A Morning Full of Thoughtful Details
Joe and Sophia are a very sentimental couple, which gave us plenty of meaningful details to photograph throughout the day. One of our favourites was a LEGO version of the bride and groom, a personal touch that added a bit of fun while still reflecting their personalities.

As a two-person photography team, we’re able to cover both sides of the morning preparations. While Kaxenia photographed Sophia and her bridal party getting ready, Ewan spent the morning with the lads, capturing the relaxed atmosphere and the LEGO details coming together. These kinds of thoughtful ideas always create unique moments that work beautifully in wedding albums and photobooks.
Bridal Preparations & Styling
Sophia’s wedding dress was soft, romantic, and full of character. The off-the-shoulder neckline featured delicate floral detailing, giving the gown a timeless feel with a subtle vintage touch. The flowing skirt moved beautifully as she walked, and the overall look felt elegant without being overdone.
Her bridesmaids complemented the dress perfectly, choosing rich burgundy gowns that added warmth and depth to the day. The colour stood out beautifully against the softer tones of the ceremony space and tied the overall look together in a classic, cohesive way.
The Ceremony
After the morning preparations, Joe and Sophia arrived at their chosen ceremony venue for the service. The couple had opted for an engagement shoot as part of their package, which allowed them to use their engagement photos for wedding invitations and display them on screens during the ceremony itself, a great way to personalise the space and share their story with guests.
Editorial Couple Shoot in Ashover
Following the ceremony, Joe and Sophia travelled into the village of Ashover for a vintage-style couple’s shoot. An editorial-style session like this gives couples a chance to step away from the day for a short while, relax, loosen jackets and dresses, and take in the reality of being newly married.
The village, combined with the slightly moody November weather, created a beautifully atmospheric backdrop. The stone walls, historic buildings, and muted countryside tones gave the photos a subtle gothic edge that suited the season perfectly and will stand the test of time.
Family, Friends & Music
After the couple’s portraits, we returned to the reception venue for family and group photographs. Working from a pre-arranged list always helps us move through this part of the day efficiently, keeping things relaxed for guests while ensuring no key photos are missed.
Later in the evening, Joe and Sophia shared another personal moment with their guests.
Both being big music lovers, they took to the stage together after dinner and cake cutting to sing, creating a heartfelt and memorable moment that was a joy to photograph.
Final Thoughts
Joe and Sophia’s wedding was a beautiful example of how sentiment, planning, and personality can come together to create a truly meaningful day. It was an absolute pleasure to capture moments that will be cherished for a lifetime.
